How much longer?

I was never going to get Piazza San Marco with no people in it, unless I went there in the middle of the night, so I just did the best I could at about 7:15 a.m. I hate the scaffolding on the right, and I could have cropped it out, but what's the point when there is that huge Moët advertisement, and the banners for the Correr Museum? I'll post some photos of things you may not have noticed in the Piazza over the next couple of days.
[The title refers to the advertisement, mainly.]

I think that in this instance one or two people add to the ambience—and help to convey the scale of the piazza. As for the Moet ad, don't get me started!

I like the early morning light. And not a pigeon in sight!

What a huge piazza! A sacrifice to get up that early for a great photo! Hey, you don't have EAGAN listed among your CDP blog list....

I agree with Alexa. Don't let the temporary visual pollution (the signs, not the people; temporary in the sense of Venice's history) distract from the opportunity to consider the relationship between the Napoleon wing and the two "office wings".

Surprisingly empty Daily Photo for the beginning of Carnivale! ;-{

Great photo! I love that there are no pigeons, too! I have a similar photo from when I was there (looking in the other direction), and the only person in the square was me. :D

Oh, Bert, don't get too obsessive! Part of the joy of Pierre's blog was / is - let's hope he returns some day - the delight he showed in the ordinary, everyday moments. You must have many such shots to share with us... relax! We like your puzzles - just don't make them so obscure that we don't have a chance to guess without poring over crosswords as well a VC, and we like your enthusiasm for the Venice we all love.

Sorry, - meant "as well as Venice connected"

Bert,
The people aren't wearing red, so it's an old photo -- the new Facebook Revolution calls on everyone to wear red next time you are in Venice!

Wearing red next trip, and lingering on a bridge!

I always wear red, so must annoy many photographers!

Well, it's dry on a late winter day and there's something to be said for that. I like the presence of the three people. It gives a sense of scale and feeling of emptiness.

Great photo. I have two pics of the Piazza with no one (apart from me) in it - but one's cheating as it's during acqua alta. In the other there's just me during a snow storm - AND YES - I'm wearing red!

Okay, okay, perhaps I'm not as thorough a follower of this blog as I'd like to be--I don't always read all the comments--but what is all this "red" about?

I'm sure it's just wishful (delusional, actually) thinking on my part that it might have anything to do with i Garibaldini.

It looks almost unreal, Piazza San Marco without people...

Oh those ads! A knife in Venice's heart but a godsend for the city, enabling many restoration projects that otherwise could not be afforded or funded.

Bert with or without people, signs or scaffolding--la Piazza è sempre bellissima!

I also have one pic taken at 6.20, one August morning, just me, my better half and one or two seagulls :) I love it!
