Casual rambles in Venice...
Lovely. But it actually makes me feel blue too.
This rio is quite easy to identify, as there is only one rio with bollards connected by bars like that. It's in Dorsoduro. It featured very briefly in Brideshead Revisited, and it took me years to find because there have been changes since the series was made. In fact, I didn't find it, but one who is much better than I am at identifying locations in Venice told me where it was.
After enjoying this beautiful blog for five-plus years, I'll chime in pour la premiere fois to provide a few additional clues. First, it's hard to believe that one could live like a hermit amongst such charming surroundings.Second, the bend in this rio reminds me that it runs roughly parallel to a calle that has been described as having a "most musical stretch" as it turns and bends like an accordion.Pierre and Bert: It is such a pleasure to escape to Venice while sitting in an office building across from the Waldorf Astoria. Thanks for inspiring many hours of reflection and daydreaming over the years.
Pierre—very fitting that you should have a quote from van Gogh, because this image looks like a painting. It seems that Christian and I are a couple of blocks from each other in Manhattan and both dreaming of Venice.
I totally second Christian's comment - you'll never know how many times I look at this page during endless conference calls at work. Thanks so much.Barb in Minnesota
